At 17, Jim Duffy ’75 enjoyed the high school business courses he completed. He also enjoyed working in a gas station and grocery store, making money, and learning the daily ups and downs of a small business. His goal was to study accounting, but he needed a program— a top-rated program—that was close to home and his job so he could commute to campus. Pace fit both criteria.

By the time Peter J. Ciccone ’61 was an undergraduate at Pace, he and his brothers had nearly a dozen years of business experience under their belts. Their father was a butcher in Greenpoint, New York, who trained his sons early. From the age of seven through his college years, Ciccone could be found working in the shop three days a week after school and all day on Saturdays. Ciccone believed that one day he, too, would also have his own business.
